Sora, the hero of the story of Kingdom Hearts. The one not destinied to be chosen by the keyblade, but chosen as his heart was filled with the most light. Honest, carefree, and not afraid to make friends, he was the one who found it easy to open up to
new people and make friends easily. In Kingdom Hearts 2, he did develop a very 'depressed' side, which usually revolved around the loss of his two best friends. Now, enough about Sora, and on to the Sora/Kairi relationship.

The first conversation we have in the game is between Sora and Kairi. It's evident from the first few lines of speech that they know each other, and probably to a high standard. However, it's not really gone into deeply, since Kairi's origins are then are there questioned, so the game progresses in telling you the reason that that they are leaving the islands and the inspiration for doing so.
But then comes the clues to a relationship beyond being best friends, laid out in a rather unobvious way. First off, is the fact Kairi has been slacking to hang out with Sora a lot. Another is the fact Riku gives Sora a popou fruit, and tells him he 'knows he wants to try it', obviously indicating Kairi, which Sora gets overly flustered about. Again, is the conversation the pair share, where Kairi proposes that just the two of them go, by themselves. She quickly shakes this off as being a joke, but most likely, due to how her relationship stands (which we, the viewers, don't know at the time) is that she was probably being deadly serious. Then, comes the biggest clue of all. The fact Sora goes into the cave, and remembers him and Kairi drawing those pictures on the walls. And then, whilst he's thinking, he draws a hand, giving a Papou to Kairi. If that isn't obvious that he cares deeply for her, I don't know what is. At this point, nothing else is really given to Kairi's emotions. When the night of the storm comes, she disappears in Sora's arms, which leads Sora into looking for her.
Sora finds the 'shell' of Kairi in Neverland, but nothing is really shown more than the fact he is overjoyed. The next time their relationship is really looked into again is near the end of the game, in Hallow Bastion. As Sora is about to be struck down by Riku, Kairi calls out to him, and he is filled with undying courage, and fights his best friend to stop him from taking Kairi's heart. He then sacrafices himself for his love, and as she awakens, he smiles at her, and she runs up to him, and he disappears in her arms. Kairi, however, is not going to forget Sora that easily. She refuses to let him go several times as she, Donald and Goofy run to escape Hollow Bastion. A heartless if pursuing them, but making absolutely no attempt in attacking them; as it is Sora, it shows he doesn't want to hurt his friends nor Kairi, even if he is forgetting them as he falls into darkness. Kairi protects him as more heartless appear, and she hugs him; and Sora is 'regenerated', and thanks her. Kairi does the same, smiling.
The conversation held between the two in Traverse Town is important, as Sora says that 'finally, we can be together', and the fact that hearing Kairi's voice in the dark brought him back. However, he goes to look for Riku, which also Kairi asks him to do, though insists she go with him. Sora refuses. Probably, he doesn't want to loose her again, and thinks that 'leaving her at home will keep her safe'. Kairi doesn't back down easily, but gives him her lucky charm anyway, as a binding to the promise he'll come back. Then, the ending. Kairi is left behind on Destiny Islands as it is reborn, and Sora promises to come back to her. At the end of the sequence, Kairi goes into the cave, and spots the drawing. Her inner mind imagines Sora drawing it, and she begins to cry. The next shot we see is Kairi doing something to the wall, also: and the last shot is a picture of the wall, with two Papou fruits. One, which Kairi just drew.
In CoM, Sora forgets everything about everyone, even Kairi. Kairi talks to Roxas one time, and is then reconnected with Sora and remmebers his name. But then, when he awakes, he remembers her clearly. Every now and again he mentions her, usually smiling. In Port Royal, Donald and Goofy start teasing him about him thinking about Kairi, and he gets all flustered. Again, in Halloween Town, he imagines he and (the younger, since Sora doesn't know what she looks like) Kairi dancing together, which he eventually snaps out of. When she's kidnapped, he goes all depressed, as does Kairi, because she insists she put Sora in immense danger. When she escapes with Namine's help, and finds Sora, she runs down to help, but ends up fighting her own battle. Then, they reunite. They have little words to share, but Kairi embraces him. 'This is real'.
Before the final battles, Sora and Kairi share a conversation with their nobodies, and they promise to be together everyday. However, they get seperated, but are reunited again, via the door of light. Which just so happens to appear in the ocean (Kairi means ocean). Sora lamely attempts swimming, and ends up running, but gets stalled along the way, but gets to Kairi eventually. And, two simple lines, and they are reunited again, forever. And one last thing; in the credits, Sora ventures into the cave, mimicking Kairi's exact steps from the last game, and sees the drawing. He looks suprised, and then smiles to himself. Just think: it all started, three games ago.
So, the future for these two? It's unsure. They are the official pairing, so something may come of their relationship. They obviously care a lot about each other, and the time they spend apart makes them withdraw into themselves. Perhaps something more will come for them if Square intends to keep with the 'Sora being the hero' of Kingdom Hearts (afterall, it's not KH without Sora, right? XD). But then again, maybe not. We'll see.

This is something you would imagine to see in a Sora/Kairi shrine; but these are similar relationship pairings I have digged up. It's kinda easier for people to relate if you know them, afterall.
Rose/the 10th Doctor (Doctor Who)
How should I put this? Lets recap. Kairi finds her way someplace. As does Rose. Kairi finds Sora; and they have to say goodbye. Rose finds the Doctor; and they have to say goodbye. And the worlds seperate from each other, and they are left behind to cry. And also, on a beach. And the start of their relationship? A very goofy attitude which was how it began. But it matures along the way.
Yuna/Tidus (Final Fantasy X/X-2)
OH COME ON, this one was bound to be here. Kairi is like a duplicate of Yuna in a lot of ways, and Sora is the happy go lucky Tidus type, though he is very different from him also. Either way, lets have a look at the CG lines they have:
Sora: We're back. / Kairi: You're home.
Yuna: You're back. / Tidus: I'm home.
It's like Square plotted against us. I noticed this the first time I watched the sequence; it's strange, the uncanny resemblance. Hmm, anyway. The X-2 realtionship portrays it like Kairi does. She goes to look for someone, after being tired of living her old life. They are both from different worlds (in both cases). Either way, I think these pairings are similar.
Sakura/Syaoran (TRC)
(don't kill me. This is not the fact I love both pairings. Or Sora has the same seiyuu). Lets see. Sora goes off to recover Kairi's heart, and travels many different worlds with two friends in the process. Syaoran goes off to recover Sakura's memories, her heart, and travels many different worlds with two friends in the process. They would do anything for each other, and find it really hard to speak out about their feelings for one another.
And their's probably more, if I think about it. But hey, these came straight too mind.
